BENGALURU: The recent hike in bus and Metro fares has already infuriated people of Bengaluru. Now, citizens may have to face another price increase, this time for water.
The possibility of a 30 per cent water tariff hike is likely to be discussed and finalised at a cabinet meeting on Thursday. This decision comes before the budget session, and the government might approve the hike also.
The water tariff hike was proposed by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) a few months ago. The board had recommended a 30 per cent increase, which was discussed in a meeting of officials. Now, the cabinet will review and likely approve the proposal this Thursday.
However, there are also speculations that the government might reconsider the hike due to the ongoing public outrage over the recent bus and metro fares increase. The government may adopt a ‘wait and watch’ strategy to avoid further public backlash.
