MYSURU, BENGALURU: With the Lok Sabha election scene hotting up, after both the BJP and the Congress announcing their first list of candidates, questions are being raised over the third term prospects of Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha.
Senior BJP leaders are said to be talks with Mysuru royal family scion Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wodeyar, giving rise to speculation that the current MP may be benched. The BJP is said to be waiting for the approval of Rajmata Pramoda Devi Wodeyar to field Yaduveer in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
Reacting to the issue, BJP state president B Y Vijayendra said he cannot spead about what happened between four wall. “We will field good, winnable candidates in all 28 constituencies.
To a question on some current MPs being denied a chance in the upcoming election, senior BJP leader and former CM B S Yediyurappa merely said, “Everything will be known tomorrow. After discussions, a clear picture will emerge. There’s no point in discussing it now.
Opposition leader in the Assembly, R Ashoka, said the central leadership has already conducted a survey in all the 28 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state. “Taking into account the good work done by the current MPs, the party will decide where to field new candidates. The BJP normally undertakes such exercises. In the last election, Tejasvi Surya was fielded from Bengaluru South. But definitely, there has been discussion about the sitting MPs, but there has not been any discussion on new candidates”, he said.
Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya said all the buzz about Pratap Simha is only in the media. “In another 2-3 days, the parliamentary board and the central leaders will meet and make the announcement. The BJP is already strong in Mysuru. There will be clarity in another two days”, he said.
