Businessman Anand Mahindra praises Halakki woman for cleaning garbage at Ankola bus stand

KARWAR: Chairman of the Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra, has praised the Halakki woman who cleaned garbage thrown by passengers at the Ankola bus stand, on Tuesday.

In a video shared on Twitter, a Halakki woman can be seen selling wild fruits like Carissa carandas, Jamun and others for her livelihood at the Ankola bus stand. Usually, these fruits are sold in rolled leaves and it is common for passengers sitting in the bus to throw the leaves outside the window after eating the fruits. But the Halakki woman in the video can be seen picking up the discarded leaves and putting them into a dustbin in an effort to keep the bus stand surroundings clean.

Businessman Anand Mahindra retweeted the video and said, “These are the real, quiet heroes making Bharat Swachh. I really would like her to know that her efforts have not gone unnoticed & are appreciated. How do you suggest we can do that? @adarshahgd can you find someone who lives in that area & can contact her?”.

The Halakki woman’s efforts towards a cleaner environment is being appreciated by netizens. The video of her cleaning the bus stand premises has gone viral on social media.
