MYSURU: Animal Husbandry Minister K Venkatesh courted controversy on Saturday while reacting to queries on revoking the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2020, when he questioned, “Why can’t cows be slaughtered if buffaloes and bulls can be slaughtered?”
“I also have three or four cows in my house. When one of these died, we were faced difficult to dig a pit in order to bury it. Even after 25 people came, they could not lift the carcass. Finally, we buried the carcass with the help of an excavator. Therefore, we will discuss about revoking the Prohibition of Cow Slaughter Act and take appropriate action”.
The minister clarified that they will take an appropriate decision in a way that will benefit the farmers. Further, he said, “Amul has not entered the state and Nandini is not troubled by Amul. Let’s see when Amul comes in the next few days. We will take steps to promote Nandini products. We will check the status of the cow adoption scheme. There is no dearth of finance to maintain Goshalas. But the management is not happening as expected earlier”, he added.
