BENGALURU: With the Karnataka bandh slated to be organised on September 29, Bengaluru Deputy Commissioner Dayanad said no decision has been taken yet on keeping schools closed on that day.
Speaking to Public TV, the DC said, “We have not taken any decision so far on announcing a holiday for schools. Based on the government’s directives, we will take a decision on declaring a holiday”, he said.
The Associated Managements of Primary and Secondary Schools in Karnataka (KAMS) has extended moral support to the bandh call, but left it to the individual institution managements to declare a holiday. Association secretary Shashikumar said the district deputy commissioners should announce the decision on whether to keep schools open or not by Thursday morning.
In view of the proposed bandh, the Bangalore University has declared a holiday on September 20 and postponed the second an fourth semester exams scheduled for that day. The exams will now be held on September 30.
Meanwhile, Namma Metro has announced that it will suspend services on the Mysuru Road-Kengeri purple line on that day for safety reasons. However, there will be no disruptions on the green line.
