CHAMARAJANAGAR: A man, who had been boycotted by his own community, and was also in debt, committed suicide by hanging from a tree at Agara village in Yelandur taluk on Wednesday. He left behind a death note mentioning the social boycott and the burden of loans.

Rangaswamy was earlier a leader of the Nayaka community in the village and had allegedly misused Rs 12 funds of the community for personal use. Following this, the community had socially boycotted him.

Rangaswamy was refused a mortgage loans as his house (right) did not have proper access road.

Last year, Rangaswamy paid up Rs 6 lakh and had promised to repay the rest. He tried to mortgage his house to raise money, but a bank refused loan since there was no access road to the house.

Following this, Rangaswamy approached Chamarajanagar DC Shilpa Nag with a petition to clear the encroachments near his house. The DC directed the panchayat to act on the petition following which Rangaswamy’s relationship with his neighbour soured.

Rangaswamy mentioned all this in his death note. The Agara Mamballi police have registered a case. The body was sent to the Chamarajanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) for post-mortem examination.
