CHIKKABALLAPUR: A young boy was thrashed by villagers after he was tied to an electric pole for allegedly stealing gold ornaments of a small girl at Kempadenahalli in Chintamani taluk on Friday night.

Villagers had tied the boy to a pole and thrashed him.

The villagers alleged that the boy stole the earring of Kushala, daughter of Nagaraj of the same village, while they were playing. The villagers tied to boy to a police and thrashed him. His mother, who arrived there to save him, was also allegedly assaulted.

The boy showed the police where the earring was kept in the bushes.

The villagers later called the emergency number 112, who arrived there. Surprisingly, the police retrieved the earring from some bushes where it was hidden, in the presence of the villagers. The entire incident was captured on mobile phones. However, the boy’s mother has alleged that he was being wrongly accused of theft and assaulted.

An earring was recovered by the police from the bushes.

Both the boy and his mother have since been admitted to the government hospital in Chintamani. The Chintamani Rural police have registered complaints from both sides.

Meanwhile, Dalit groups, which have taken up the cause of the boy and his mother, have demanded action against the girl’s father Nagaraj, Narayanaswamy, Naveen, Harish and others.
