UDUPI: Eight fishermen were saved after the hull of their boat developed a leak and sank off the Malpe beach on Friday.
The fishermen had set off for deep sea fishing in the boat ‘Narayana’ belonging to one Kadekaru Raksha. However, the boat hit a rock, damaging the hull, and started taking water and sinking.
The fishermen sent out a distress signal on the wireless network and the boat ‘Sri Mookambika Anugraha’ responded to their call and rescued all the eight fishermen.
Within minutes, the boat completely sank in the water. The loss is estimated at around Rs 15 lakh.
