BENGALURU: The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) staff who have not linked PAN number to their Aadhaar number will face a 20 per cent penalty of their pay.
As per the direction given by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the Income Tax (IT) Department has issued a notification stating that it is mandatory for every employee who has not linked their PAN to Aadhaar numbers to be subject to a 20 per cent penalty on their total income. Despite repeated reminders and awareness programmes, some BMTC staffers have not completed the linking process.
The Income Tax Department has issued a demand notice and has also imposed a penalty of 20 per cent on the corporation as the staff have not completed the linking process. The BMTC has warned its employees that if the linking process is not completed, further action will be taken and has instructed them to complete the linking process immediately.
The BMTC also noted that the staff were reminded several times through letters to complete the linking process by June 2024.
It noted that in the event of failure to act in this regard depot managers/Account Superintendents/Supervisors/ Income Tax managers will be held directly responsible and it will be brought to the notice of the higher authorities for initiating disciplinary action.
Meanwhile, with the increase in dengue cases in the city, the BMRCL has instructed its staff to take precautions to prevent the spread of the disease. The staff has been instructed to wear protective clothing and to take other necessary precautions like medicine and fogging when there are fewer passengers at all metro stations every day.
