BENGALURU: Electric bus drivers of BMTC went on a strike, stopping bus operations, at Depot No. 13 on Friday. The drivers were protesting against the delay in salary payments for the past 5-6 months. Around 50 electric buses did not operate, while 60 regular BMTC buses continued regular operations.
The drivers were demanding timely payment of their salaries and have refused to operate the electric buses until the issue is resolved. The electric bus drivers are appointed by a private company on a contractual basis, while the conductors are BMTC employees. The BMTC has been paying the private company based on the kilometers operated, but the company has been paying the drivers irregularly.
The strike caused disruptions in bus services, with passengers facing difficulties in commuting. The drivers have stated that they will not resume operations until they get full payment.
