BENGALURU: A 25-year-old bank employee died and another child was severely injured after a BMTC electric bus, driven by its conductor, crashed into a roadside eatery in Peenya Stage 11 around 8.45 am on Friday. The deceased was identified as Suma, who was on her way to work in Hebbal.
The bus (KA 51 AK 4170, Route No. 252/4), belonging to Depot 22, was plying from Majestic to Peenya Stage 11 when the accident occurred. It is said that the driver and condutor Ramesh had got into an argument and the conductor had taken over the wheel. As soon as it crashed into the eatery, an LPG cylinder caught fire, but it was quickly put out by some locals, preventing a major disaster.
Suma had gone to the eatery to pick up a parcel when the bus crashed into it. Hailing from Tarikere in Mandya district, she was working at a bank in Hebbal and living in Bengaluru for the last three years.
Suma was shifted to a private hospital, but did not survive. Her sister Girija vented her anger at BMTC officials who visited the hospital following the accident. “Will money bring back her life? How can the conductor driver the bus? Suma was there to pick up breakfast and head to work. She was the one looking after our parents. The BMTC has put our family into a lot of despair”, she said.
