BMTC drivers to be suspended for reckless driving

BENGALURU: After back-to-back incidents of reckless driving by it drivers, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has finally taken the issue seriously and is set to take stringent action to prevent such incidents.

Recently, two videos, which highlighted instances of reckless driving, went viral on social media. One video showed a BMTC bus driver watching reels on his phone while driving. Another video showed a driver reading a newspaper while driving a bus.

These incidents of reckless driving by BMTC bus drivers have not only annoyed the public but also caused fear. Public TV had also reported about the incidents of negligence on the part of the drivers.

Following this, BMTC has decided to take serious action against drivers who are found to be involved in reckless driving. Lakhs of people travel by BMTC buses daily, but some drivers’ behaviour has tarnished the image of BMTC . Despite this, no action was taken against them until now.

The BMTC administration has now decided to suspend errant drivers and is planning to issue warnings to all drivers immediately. Through this, BMTC aims to prevent such incidents in the coming days.

Prabhakar Reddy, the Managing Director of the corporation, said, “We have given strict directions to drivers not to use any device while driving. We will deal with it on a case-by-case basis. If we notice such incidents repeatedly, we will first issue notice, and suitable action will be taken. Investigation regarding the two incidents is ongoing”.
