BENGALURU: Two people were killed in separate accidents involving BMTC buses in the city on Thursday.

A BMTC bus travelling from SBM Railway Station to Silk Board collided with a Tata Ace and a car near Madiwala bus stand around 6:30 am on Thursday, and then hit a 65-year-old pedestrian, Venkataramaiah, who was standing on the footpath.

The victim had come to buy vegetables at the Madiwala market.

Venkataramaiah died on the spot. He was a vegetable vendor who had come to the bus stand to collect vegetables. The Madivala traffic police have registered a case in connection with the incident. The body of the deceased has been shifted to St John’s Hospital for post-mortem examination.

The bus ran over a woman who was crossing the road.

In another incident, a BMTC bus crushed to death a 70-year-old woman in Vijayanagar. The deceased was identified as Susheela, a resident of Nagarabhavi. Susheela had alighted from the bus at Vijayanagar Circle and was crossing the road when the electric bus ran over her.

The driver fled the scene soon after the accident. The incident appears to have been caused by the driver’s negligence. Susheela’s body was been shifted to Victoria Hospital for autopsy. The Vijayanagar police have registered a case.
