BMTC bus driver dies of heart attack while driving, conductor’s presence of mind averts major disaster

BENGALURU: A BMTC bus driver, suffered a heart attack and died while driving the bus near Yeshwantpur in Bengaluru. None of the passengers were hurt due to the conductor’s presence of mind. The deceased has been identified as Kiran Kumar (39), who worked at BMTC Depot 40.

The incident occurred when Kiran was driving from Nelamangala to Yeshwantpur. He suddenly suffered chest pain and collapsed. As he collapsed, the conductor Obalesh quickly jumped to the driver’s seat, applied the brakes and stopped the bus. At least 50 passengers were travelling in the bus at the time of the incident and some pedestrians and two-wheeler riders can also be seen on the road.

The incident was captured on CCTV camera fitted inside the us. In the video, the bus driver can be seen collapsing from his seat and the bus brushing another BMTC bus on the road. The conductor’s swift action averted a major disaster.

The crew from the other bus rushed to Kiran’s aid and he was shifted to a hospital, but he did not survive.
