BENGALURU: With the Water Conservation Committee calling for a Bengaluru bandh on Tuesday, confusion prevails over services that will be available.
Despite facing a lot of pressure, and some organisations withdrawing their support from tomorrow’s bandh, the committee stands firm on its decision. Meanwhile, pro-Kannada organisations have called for Karnataka Bandh on September 29.
The police department tightened security as a precautionary measure in the city. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of IPC has been imposed in Bengaluru from midnight on Monday until midnight on Tuesday. Meanwhile, a bandh has also been called tomorrow in KR Pet, Malavalli and T Narasipur.
Tomorrow’s ‘Bengaluru Bandh’ is coated with politics. The BJP and JD(S) have extended their support to the bandh. The BJP will hold a dharna in front of the Gandhi statue at Vidhana Soudha. Former CM Kumaraswamy and BS Yediyurappa will participate in the dharna.
The ruling party Congress has not opposed the bandh, but has requested to hold a peaceful strike. Hotels, liquor shops, BMTC, KSRTC, Ola, Uber, autorickshaws, Namma Metro, trains, government offices, banks, post offices, hospitals, medical stores, grocery, milk, fruit and vegetable shop will remain open.
Private buses, goods vehicles, schools and colleges, factories, garment units, BBMP and BDA offices, APMC Market, KR Market, jewellery shops, theatres and education institutions will remain closed.
