BENGALURU: The first pictures of Namma Metro’s driverless train prototype for the yellow line has been revealed. Officials of the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) unveiled the first photos of the Metro at the Hebbagodi depot.
Bengaluru currently has two metro lines — the purple line between Challaghatta and Kadugodi and the green line from Nagasandra to Silk Board. The China-made Metro coaches for the yellow line were first brought to Chennai port by sea and later by road to Bengaluru last week. The state’s first driverless metro train is now ready for trials.

The driverless metro will operate from RV Road to Bommasandra, and the coaches have been brought from China. The testing will be conducted for another three-four months and about 15 trial tests will be conducted on the track. The yellow line will become operational after approval from Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety and the Railway Board.
All preparations have been made to run the driverless metro train in the coming days from Kalena Agrahara-Nagavara route and Airport route as well. As per Namma Metro sources, the BMRCL authorities are planning on implementing the driverless system initially on the yellow line and then extending it to the blue route and later on the purple and green routes.

The 13.71-km stretch from Whitefield (Kadugodi) Metro to Krishnarajapura Metro Line of Reach-1 extension project under Bangalore Metro Phase 2 was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March last year at Whitefield (Kadugodi) Metro Station.
Being taken up at a cost of around Rs 4,250 crores, the inauguration of this metro line provides clean, safe, rapid, and comfortable travel facility to commuters in Bengaluru, enhancing the ease of mobility and reducing traffic congestion in the city, especially in the IT corridor.
