BENGALURU: For the first time in 12 years, the city witnessed record rainfall and low temperatures in the winter season on Saturday. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red and yellow alert for different parts of Karnataka for the next two days in view of the cyclone.
The rainfall for the past two days recorded was 4.3 mm while the minimum temperature recorded was 17.6 degrees Celsius. The average temperature recorded last week was 26–28 degrees Celsius. The IMD has warned that there will be more rainfall and cold weather for the next two days.
The IMD has issued a red alert for south-interior Karnataka with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. It has also issued a yellow alert for Bengaluru city and Rural districts, Chamarajanagara, Chikkaballapur, Chikkamagaluru, Kolar, Mandya, Ramanagara and Tumakur districts. North-interior and coastal Karnataka will receive moderate rainfall.
In the next week from December 11 to 16, the minimum temperature will be 18-19 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature will be 25-28 degrees Celsius, the weather department said.
Doctors have cautioned people to be more careful due to the sudden change in weather. The number of children coming to the OPD has increased since the last two days. Many people have been suffering from flu symptoms over the last few days.
Doctors have also advised people to avoid eating food from outside and stated that the number of dengue and asthama cases is likely to rise. People prone to infections should be careful, they noted.
