KALABURAGI: High drama prevailed at the inspection bungalow at Chittapur on Wednesday evening, where Opposition leader in the Legislative Council, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy was staying, after Congress workers gheraoed the premises demanding his apology over his remarks against IT-BT Minister Priyank Kharge.
The Congress workers threw ink at Chalavadi Narayanaswamy’s car and staged a protest for about nine hours demanding that he publicly apologise. Earlier in the day, during a press conference, the BJP leader had used a metaphor of an elephant and barking dogs, referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Priyank Kharge, respectively.

Following the protest, and upon instructions from senior leader B S Yediyurappa, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy apologised to the Congress workers, but they insisted on a public apology. Local BJP leader Ambaraya Ashtagi, who arrived at the inspection bungalow, was shoved around by Congress worker and had to be rescued by the police. Only after the police convinced the Congress workers to disperse, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy left the inspection bungalow.
The Karnataka BJP unit posted on X saying “Kalaburgi is the Republic of Kalaburgi under the care of the Hon’ble TrollMinister@PriyankKharge. The attempted attack by Priyank Kharge’s goonda gang on the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, @NswamyChalavadi is highly condemnable!! Mr. Priyank Kharge, if you have the ideal of beating, beating, cutting, then the ideal is the Constitution given to us by Babasaheb. We will respond to your crude threats and rowdyism through the Constitution”.

On Thursday, a BJP delegation led Opposition leader in the Assembly, R Ashoka, and Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, met Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot and sought his intervention and take immediate action against those involved in the attack and blockade.

“The Congress party is committing hooliganism in the state. After C T Ravi, now the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, Chalavadi Narayana Swamy, has been attacked. The police department did not allow Narayanaswami to participate in any other programme in Kalaburagi and forced him to leave the district. The Congress has no authority to take the law into its own hands”, R Ashoka said later.
