DHARWAD: A BJP Yuva Morcha office-bearer was brutally murdered at Koturu village in the taluk on Tuesday night. The deceased is Praveen Kammar, the BJP’s Dharwad district Yuva Morcha vice-president.
It is said that Praveen got into an argument with some people when he was stabbed in the stomach. However, the motive for the murder is not yet known.
Praveen was rushed to a private hospital in Dharwad, but he did not respond to treatment. On Wednesday morning, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi visited the hospital and spoke to the family members of the Yuva Morcha leader.
Later, speaking to media persons, Joshi, who was accompanied by MLA Amrut Desai, termed Praveen’s death as a political killing. “The MLA had warned Praveen to be careful and I have asked the police to take necessary action. The state government should take strict action and ensure justice to the family. Relief will be given to the family”, he said.
The Garag police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the accused. Later in the day, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Alok Kumar tweeted that four people, including the one who stabbed Praveen, had been arrested in connection with the murder.
