NEW DELHI: Senior BJP leaders launched a sharp attack on Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi for reiterating allegations of electoral manipulation during his address in Germany, accusing him of repeatedly speaking against India on foreign soil and undermining the country’s democratic institutions.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson Shahzad Poonawalla on Tuesday tore into Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, calling him “leader of propaganda, paryatan (tourism), palayan (migration), adding that he has “perfected the art of insulting the country,” over the latter’s criticism of the NDA-led government during his visit to Germany.
Shahzad Poonawalla alleged that Rahul Gandhi has an agenda to “meet anti-India Soros’ agents”. “Once again Rahul Gandhi has proven that he is not the Leader of Opposition but a Leader of Propaganda, Leader of ‘Paryatan’, and Leader of ‘Palayan’. He makes allegations and runs away. Rahul Gandhi has perfected the art of insulting our country… In Berlin, he has said that India’s institutions have been captured. He said that nothing in India is fair,” Shahzad Poonawalla said.

“He also goes on to say that Indian people will fight against each other. He has only one agenda, that is to meet anti-India Soros’ agents, whether it is to meet Ilhan Omar, Salil Shetty, who spew venom against Bharat, who make unfounded accusations and allegations against Bharat on foreign soil”, he added.
Party national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari too launched a blistering attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remarks made during an interaction in Germany, alleging that the Congress leader was projecting a narrative of chaos, unrest and India’s failure on foreign soil.
Reacting strongly to Rahul Gandhi’s comments, Bhandari questioned the intent behind such statements and accused the Congress of harbouring an “anti-India” mindset. Sharing a clip of the Congress leader’s remarks on social media platform X, Bhandari wrote, “Can a man who loves Bharat want India to fail? Rahul Gandhi in Germany says he thinks: People will fight each other, India will fail, and Unrest will happen. From Fighting Indian state, to threatening Anarchy…”

The BJP spokesperson further alleged that Rahul Gandhi travels abroad to unite forces that are hostile to India’s democratic institutions and progress. “Rahul Gandhi’s Congress with his ideological patron George Soros wants Chaos, Unrest in Indian Democracy… Rahul goes abroad for uniting such Anti India forces…” Bhandari said.
He accused the Congress of consistently undermining India’s global image and democratic framework, adding that the party “hates Indian democracy” and “hates Bharat’s progress”. “Congress hates Indian Democracy…Congress hates Bharat’s progress… Rahul Gandhi’s Congress wants Anarchy!” National Spokesperson post read.
Bhandari’s remarks came after Rahul Gandhi, during an address at the Hertie School in Berlin as part of his five-day visit to Germany, criticised the BJP-led central government and claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for India would fail and reiterated his allegation that the BJP is “capturing” the country’s institutional framework, terming it an “attack” on the democratic system.
Party national general secretary Tarun Chugh criticised Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over his remarks in Germany, accusing the latter of “hatching a conspiracy to defame” India’s institutions on foreign soil.
Tarun Chugh said, “Rahul Gandhi’s foreign trip is an anti-India trip. A conspiracy is being hatched to defame India’s institutions on foreign soil… They are defaming the country… Now they are glorifying China… Prime Minister Modi has transformed India’s economy from the decline under UPA through initiatives like Make in India and fiscal discipline, making it the world’s fastest-growing economy…”

BJP MP Manoj Tiwari said Rahul Gandhi had “already proven that he has no interest in becoming a leader of India.” “According to Rahul Gandhi’s thinking, India should not even think about becoming a world guru (Vishwaguru). This shows how big an enemy these people are of India,” Tiwari said. Highlighting India’s economic progress, he added, “Today, among the world’s economically prosperous countries, India ranks fourth. We will very soon be in third place”.
Echoing similar sentiments, Bihar Minister Dilip Jaiswal criticised Gandhi’s choice of platform, saying, “Whenever Rahul Gandhi goes abroad, he always speaks against India. For this, the people of the country will never forgive him. Whatever he has to say about the country, he should say it on platforms connected to the country.”
The BJP’s reaction came after Rahul Gandhi, speaking at the Hertie School in Berlin during a session titled ‘Politics Is The Art Of Listening’, once again alleged ‘vote theft’ and questioned the fairness of recent elections in India. Gandhi claimed that the Congress had won the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections and alleged that the Maharashtra Assembly elections were “not fair.”
“We have won elections in Telangana, Himachal Pradesh. We have been raising concerns about the fairness of elections in India,” Gandhi said, adding that the Opposition had presented evidence and sought answers from the Election Commission. He cited what he described as serious anomalies in voter lists, claiming, “A Brazilian woman was there on the voting list 22 times in Haryana.”
Gandhi further alleged that there was a “full-scale assault” on India’s institutional framework and accused the Centre of “weaponising” investigating agencies. He suggested that business interests were pressured into financially supporting the BJP, implying a quid pro quo arrangement.
