BENGALURU: The state BJP, which had planned to launch a protest against the Congress government over several issues, has put it off for the second time in less than a week.
The main opposition party had initially planned to launch the agitation on August 23, which was then put off to August 28. Now, it has been put off again.
Incidentally, the the core committee, which had met last week, had decided to go full throttle against the government from August 28 on issues like commission for clearing pending bills of BBMP contractors, stoppage of all development work, alleged corruption in transfer of officials, scrapping of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 among others.
Party functionaries claimed that after organising the huge welcome for Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the Isro-Istrac facility, it would have been difficult to organise a largescale agitation within a span of one day. However, others point to the lack of leadership and unity amonng the state leaders.
The BJP state leadership also seem be wary with the Congress trying to woo some leaders while the party high command’s studied indifference also has them perplexed. Though, earlier on, the JD(S) too had joined forces, the state BJP now looks adrift after the two parties moved away. To add to the troubles, senior leader B S Yediyurappa too has remained mum, much to the chagrin of the state unit.
