BJP MLA Madal Virupakshappa sent to police custody for 5 days

BENGALURU: Channagiri BJP MLA Madal Virupakshappa, who was arrested on Monday, has been sent to police custody for five days by the Special Court for Elected Representatives in connection with a corruption case on Tuesday.

The Lokayukta police had produced MLA Madal Virupakshappa before the Special Court which remanded him to Lokayukta police custody till April 1. The Lokayukta police had asked for 10 days custody. But the lawyers for Madal objected, saying he has already appeared for questioning many times, and argued that ten days of police custody was not necessary.

Madal Virupakshappa has been sent to police custody for five days by the Special Court for Elected Representatives. 

The Lokayukta appealed to the court and pleaded that Madal has not cooperated with the inquiry so far. After hearing the arguments of the two sides the Special Court for People’s Representatives remanded Virupakshappa to police custody for 5 days till Saturday. During the hearing, Virupakshappa told the court that he was feeling dizzy and requested to sit.
