BENGALURU: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday exuded confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will secure absolute majority and return to power after the Assembly elections, to be held on May 10. “I am confident that BJP will come to power with an absolute majority,” CM Bommai told reporters on Wednesday.
Candidates for 189 constituencies have been announced and the party is confident of coming back to power with an absolute majority, the CM said. He said that the selection of candidates has been welcomed in almost all the constituencies and the process of convincing the dissatisfied leaders is on. “I have already spoken to MLC Laxman Savadi, who was denied a party ticket, and I have asked him not to take any hasty decision”, he said.
“I have an emotional connect with Savadi and I am in constant touch with him. The party stood by him in difficult times and will continue to help him. A good decision will be taken to protect his honour. He has a bright future”, the CM said.
Meanwhile, supporters of sitting BJP MLA from Belgaum North, Anil Benake, staged a protest on Tuesday night after he was denied a ticket for the upcoming Assembly elections. Supporters of BJP MLA Mahadevappa Yadawad too protested in the Ramdurg constituency over denial of the ticket to him. Chikkarevana, who joined the BJP recently, got the ticket from Ramdurg constituency.
The BJP on Tuesday night released the first list of candidates for 189 seats out of 224 seats for the upcoming Assembly elections with 52 new candidates. The list includes 51 Lingayats, 41 Vokkaligas, seven Kurbas, 30 SCs, 16 STs and 32 from the OBC community.
Filing of nomination will begin on April 13. The Assembly elections will be held in a single phase on May 10, with the counting of votes scheduled on May 13. (ANI)
