BENGALURU: The speculation regarding the suicide of real estate businessman C J Roy due to alleged pressure from the Income Tax department has finally been put to rest. Contrary to initial claims, the probe by a special investigation team (SIT) has revealed that Roy’s death was not a result of IT department’s pressure, but rather due to severe mental depression.

The SIT probing the case has found that Roy, chairman of Confident Group, had been undergoing treatment for depression for several months prior to his death. However, he had stopped taking his medication about a month before the incident, which likely contributed to his decision to take his own life.

Despite thorough investigation, the SIT has not been able to pinpoint the exact cause of Roy’s mental depression. The team is set to submit its report to the court soon, bringing an end to the highly publicised case.
