Bicycle Day campaign in Bengaluru promotes non-motorised transport

Cycle Day campaign to promote non-motorised transportation as well as environmental awareness was organised on Sunday.

BENGALURU: The Bicycle Day campaign was organised in order to promote non-motorised transport and to create awareness about environmental pollution in the city on Sunday. The programme was held in collaboration with the Directorate of Urban Land Transport, the Rotary Club of Bangalore, the Women of Wisdom and more than eight clubs.

Cyclists started from Clarence Public School in JP Nagra 4th phase and ended there.

The campaign was flagged off by actors Anirudh and Samyukta Horanadu, Manju George of the Directorate of Urban Development, and other members of the organisation.

The campaign was held in collaboration with the Directorate of Urban Land Transport, the Rotary Club of Bangalore, the Women of Wisdom and more than eight clubs.

The cyclists started from Clarence Public School, J P Nagar 4th phase, and returned to the school after completing 3.8 km. They raised slogans on saving the environment along the route.

“I am extremely happy to be part of this. Today, so many organisations have come together to promote a good message to the community. People of all age groups have participated in this event,” said actor Anirudh.

“The main purpose of this event, regularly collaborating with the WoW and other organisations, is to promote healthy lifestyles as well as fuel-free movement on the roads, thus conserving the environment,” said Jeetendra Aneja, District Governor, Rotary Club of Bangalore West.

“Cycling is not only helpful for physical health, but also helps to control air pollution and for other reasons. The government has earmarked lanes for cycling, but more cycle-friendly lanes are required in the city. Not only awareness but cycling events are also belt held. I am happy to be part of this and these kinds of events should be encouraged,” said actor Samyuktha Horanad.
