BENGALURU:  After the tragic incident in Kadugodi where a woman and her child were electrocuted by a snapped live wire, Bescom has completed a survey and identified dangerous spots across the  city. It has also set itself a deadline to fix them by the end of December.

However, given the sheer number of 25,000 more spots that need to be fixed, questions are being raised whether the task can be completed in the remaining 14 days of this month.

After the Kadugodi incident, Bescom took up survey and repair work in November and identified around 38,000 danger spots within the BBMP limits. The power utility has completed repair work at 13,452 spots and another 25,380 spots need to be fixed in the next fortnight. Moreover, about 60 per cent of the work has not been take up in other districts such as Tumakuru, Kolar, Ramanagara, Bengaluru Rural and Davanagere which are serviced by Bescom.

S T Shantamallappa, General Manager (Quality, Standards and Safety) of Bescom, said a deadline of December-end has been set for completing the pending repairs. As per the survey by Bescom in Bengaluru city, there are still 25,380 spots which need to be repaired while in other cities, 32,072 places have to be repaired. “Bescom may need more time for such largescale work and it is difficult to fix everything in the next 14 days. Therefore, there is a possibility of a delay in the completion of repair work”, he said.

As per the report, there were 5,472 spots to be repaired in north zone of which 2,616 have been completed and 2,856 spots remain to be fixed. In the east zone, a total of 4,187 spots were identified and 1,990 have been repaired while 2,197 works are pending. Bescom had identified a total of 12,794 spots in the west zone out of which 5,229 have been repaired and 7,565 are pending. Likewise, in the south zone, there are a total of 26,469 spots identified out of which 3,707 have been fixed and 12,762 works are pending.
