BENGALURU: The Commissioner of Greater Bengaluru’s West City Corporation, Dr K V Rajendra, expressed dissatisfaction with the food quality served at an Indira Canteen.
After visiting a canteen in HMT Ward on September 6, he wrote in the feedback book that the food quality is very bad; the idlis were rubbery and hard, and the sambar was watery with minimal vegetables and dal. He also wrote that pongal was good and directed officials to maintain hygiene at the canteen.
The canteen is one of 29 in the West City Corporation’s jurisdiction that is supplied food by the catering agency Rewards. Following the commissioner’s feedback, a notice has been issued to Rewards regarding their catering services and the firm was given 48 hours to submit a report.
The commissioner has also ordered daily inspections of the canteens, including checking CCTV footage to verify if customers are actually being served food. A nodal officer has been appointed to oversee the canteens and ensure the quality of food served.
