Bengaluru Urban DC visits stadium, Vidhana Soudha as part of magesterial probe, to issue notices

BENGALURU: After Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced a magesterial inquiry into the stampede that occurred at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday, Bengaluru Urban district Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha inspected the stadium and the grand steps of the Vidhana Soudha on Thursday.

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru team was felicitated by the state government on the steps of the Vidhana Soudha on Wednesday after the players returned from Ahmedabad. The event was cut short after the stampede at the stadium.

The CM has directed the DC to submit a report in 15 days and notices will be issued to the families of the deceased and injured, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), police officers and other. The investigating officer will also collect other evidence like CCTV footage, videos posted on social media, etc.

Speaking after inspecting the stadium, Jagadeesha said 11 people died in the stampede and 47 were injured. “The investigation will look into how the incident occurred and who was responsible, what could have been done to prevent it, among other issues. We will look into CCTV footage, videos from media houses, social media, etc., and also speak to families of the deceased and injured. Notices will also be issued to the RCB management, DNA Networks, traffic police and Metro authorities. People can lodge complaints or provide evidence at 10 am on June 13”, he said.
