BENGALURU: Amidst the rising Covid-19 cases, Bengaluru is witnessing a disconcerting trend with a surge case of Influenza-like Illness (ILI). The number of ILI cases has been increasing from April to May, giving rise to concerns about whether ILI is becoming a major concern for the city.
The government has made it mandatory to test for ILI and SARI cases. According to BBMP data, ILI cases have alarmingly increased from 167 in the last week of April to 572 by May 25, with all eight zones reporting a surge in cases. According to the health department’s data, the ILI case surged over the last four weeks.
Week 1 – April 28 to May 5: 128 ILI cases
Week 2 – May 5 to May 11: 134 ILI cases
Week 3 – May 12 to May 18: 146 ILI cases
Week 4 – May 19 to May 25: 164 ILI cases
Total: 572 ILI cases
