BENGALURU: The number of hoax bomb calls is increasing day by day in Karnataka, and the police are getting frustrated. The culprits are making fake bomb calls to schools, colleges, buses, railway stations, airports, temples, and hotels, mainly targetting Bengaluru.
The police have received 468 fake bomb calls between 2020 and 2026, with 90 per cent of them targeting Bengaluru. The Home Ministry has released shocking statistics, revealing that the police have failed to catch the culprits in most cases.
In the Legislative Council, Home Minister G Parameshwara replied to a question, stating that the police have registered cases in all 468 incidents but have only solved 14, with two resulting in convictions. The number of fake bomb calls is increasing every year — seven cases in 2020, six in 2021, 15 in 2022, 153 in 2023, 89 in 2024, 159 in 2025, and 39 in 2026.

- Mangalore: 34 cases
- Mysuru: 33 cases
- Bengaluru Urban: 10 cases
- Hassan: 9 cases
- Bengaluru South: 5 cases

The conviction rate is alarming, with only two convictions out of 468 cases. Twelve cases are still under trial, and the culprits in 454 cases are still at large.
