Bengaluru receives heavy rainfall; power outages, traffic jams at many places

BENGALURU: Bringing cheer, Bengaluru and adjoining parts received good rainfall, accompanied by thunder and lightning, on Monday evening. Some parts were even hit by hailstorms.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate rain this evening. Towards evening, many parts of the city experienced sharp showers. In Anekal, it was the first shower this year across the taluk.

There was heavy downpour around Majestic, KR Market, Jayanagar, JJ Nagar, Town Hall. Some parts of the city, including Sadashivanagar, Palace Guttahalli, Malleswaram, RT Nagar, Hebbal, Vyalikaval, Palace Ground, Seshadripuram, Ulsoor, Rajajinagar, HSR Layour, Chamarajpet, Jayanagar, and areas surroundings Yeshwantpur, Vanakanahalli and Soluru Gommalapura experienced hailstorms.

Vidhana Soudha, KR Circle, Corporation, and Town Hall experienced heavy rain with thunder and lightning. Heavy rain with thunder was also recorded around Anekal on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Anekal, Attibele, Chandapura, Jigani, Devanahalli and Electronics City received good rains. Heavy rain was also recorded in Horamavu.

People returning home in the evening faced difficulty due to flooded roads and fallen branches of trees. At several places, including Mehkri Circle, Dr CV Raman Road, Jayamahal Main Road, Ballari Road witnessed major traffic jams. Several parts of the city also witnessed power outages. Meanwhile, lightning and thunder continued late into the evening hinting at another spell of rain.
