Bengaluru readies to host first ever Kambala over the weekend

BENGALURU: The famous traditional sport of kambala, which is popular in the coastal region of the state, will come to Bengaluru over the weekend for the first time ever. About 300 bulls will be participating in the event which will be held at the Palace Grounds on November 25 and 26.

Some bulls have already arrived at the venue.

Celebrities from Sandalwood, Bollywood and Kollywood are expected to participate in the kambala event being oranised by the Bengaluru Kambala Samiti. While hectic preparations are under way, a few bulls have already arrived at the venue. The winning bull will receive 16 grams of gold and Rs 1 lakh in cash as prize.

Music director Gurukiran said most of the film industry will attend the event.

Music director Gurukiran said invitations have been sent to actors from the coastal region. “We have invited all from the film industry and they have assured they will attend and are supporting the event. Anushka Shetty has confirmed her participation and Jr NTR said he’ll try to make it as he has a film shoot on that day. Shivarajkumar and his wife, Kiccha Sudeep, Upendra and his wife, Ashwini Rajkumar, Raghavendra Rajkumar and others are expected to participate over the two days. There will be cultural shows and exhibition of old items, food stalls, etc”.

One of the bull owners said they broke journey in between to give rest to the animal and also carried water from there. The bulls are given varieties of food including horsegram, oil massage, taken for walks and swim. “It is a great feeling that kambala is being organised in Bengaluru”, he said.
