BENGALURU: Vehicle theft cases, particularly of two-wheelers, are becoming a significant challenge for the Bengaluru police. The number of cases is increasing daily, keeping the police on their toes and prompting the city police commissioner to take action.
The police should work to curb vehicle thefts, but the detection of stolen vehicles is also not being done to the full extent. Therefore, it is learned that City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh has given a new task to the city police to prevent thefts as well as ensure 100 per cent recovery of stolen vehicles.
Two-wheeler theft cases and recovered reports:
In the last 6 months, over 2,000 vehicles have been stolen, and only 22.5 per cent of them, that is 482 vehicles, have been recovered. As of June 25 this year, 2,134 vehicle theft cases have been registered.
In 2023, 5,908 vehicle theft cases were registered and 2,157 cases were traced, which is a detection rate of 36.7 per cent. In 2024, 5,352 vehicle theft cases were registered and 1,966 cases have been solved, which is a detection rate of 36.5 per cent.
