BENGALURU: The city police on Monday approached the 48th City Civil Court with a prayer to shift actor Darshan, who has been arrested in the Renukaswamy murder case after the Supreme Court cancelled his bail, to the Ballari central jail in view of security.
The petition was filed Special Public Prosecutor Prasanna Kumar citing Darshan’s links with criminal elements who are lodged in jail. The state has sought the transfer of Darshan, along with Nagaraj and Lakshman, citing security concerns. The court, which heard the matter, has posted further hearing to August 23 after giving the lawyers for the accused time to file objections.
On Monday, Darshan’s wife Vijayalakshmi met him at the Parappana Agrahara jail. On the day of his arrest last week, his lawyers had requested the court that he remain in Parappana Agrahara jail and should not be shifted citing that it would be difficult to bring him to court every time when the trial begins.
It may be recalled that Darshan was shifted to Ballari jail after he was captured on camera enjoying a luxurious lifestyle inside the Parappana Agrahara prison. The other accused Jagadish and Lakshman were shifted to Shivamogga jail, Nagaraj to Kalaburagi, Pradosh to Belagavi while Pavithra Gowda and Anukumar remained in the Bengaluru jail.
Meanwhile, Darshan has been reading from jail library and had uppittu (umpa) for breakfast on Monday as per the jail menu. Pavithra Gowda, on her part, spent time with other jail inmates. Darshan is being kept under strict watch with one Assistant Superintendent, two jailors, two assistant jailors, two head warders and two warders being deployed.
