Bengaluru man gets stuck in Kumaradhara river during suicide bid, rescued

The man jumped into the river to commit suicide but got caught in vegetation.

MANGALURU: A man who had jumped into the Kumaradhara river, probably to end his life, and got stuck in vegetation in the middle of the river, was rescued by the police, firemen and the local Shourya team at Pulikukku in Kodimbala village of Kadaba taluk on Monday.

The individual was identified as Ravikumar, a resident of Marathalli in Bengaluru. He had also slit his wrist before jumping into the river from a bridge. He was washed away for some distance in the flowing river, but after he got stuck among some plants, Ravikumar started screaming for help.

Some locals, who heard his cries, immediately informed the Kadaba police who arrived there along with the Fire and Emergency Services personnel. The rescuers launched a dinghy and pulled out Ravikumar from where he was stuck. He was taken to the community health centre in Kadaba where he was given preliminary treatment and then shifted to the Puttur hospital.

Kadaba Tahsildar Prabhakar Khajure, who visited the community health centre, said Ravikumar had attempted suicide by jumping off a bridge and had got stuck in a patch of vegetative growth. He was holding on to the plants when the rescuers reached him, the official said.
