BENGALURU: The city experienced heavy pre-monsoon showers with areas like Malleswaram, Majestic, Anand Rao Circle, Gandhinagar, K R Circle, Shivananda Circle and Corporation Circle receiving heavy rainfall with lightning and thunderstorms. The rain caused electricity outages in some areas.
The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning, predicting thunderstorms and heavy rain in Bengaluru city and its surrounding areas for the next few hours. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has appealed to the public to avoid standing under trees and travelling on roads during strong winds and rain. A tree branch fell near a car in Malleshwaram’s 17th Cross, but fortunately, no one was hurt. Areas like Rajajinagar, Mahalakshmi Layout, and Anand Rao Circle have experienced heavy rain, causing difficulties for commuters and street vendors.
The rain has caused traffic congestion in major areas like KR Market, Town Hall, KG Road and others. Near Seshadripuram, a tree branch fell on a car, disrupting traffic. Waterlogging has been reported on Mysuru Road and a huge hoarding fell near Sompura Gate in Sarjapur, but fortunately, no one was injured.
The flower market in Malleswarrain am was also affected as water entered the shops and damaged flowers, causing losses to vendors. Traffic congestion has been reported on Tumakuru Road while a huge tree branch fell on a car near National College Metro station, damaging a vehicle.
The rain is expected to affect the RCB versus Chennai match scheduled for Saturday at Chinnaswamy Stadium. The players cut short their practice session today and left the ground due to the rain.
