BENGALURU: A court in Bengaluru on Monday directed Twitter to block the handles of the Congress and its Bharat Jodo Yatra campaign temporarily, in a case related to alleged copyright infringement.
The court also asked the mircroblogging site to take down three tweets posted from Congress handles. It has directed the defendants not to ‘unauthorisedly and illegally’ use the copyrighted work till November 21, the next date of hearing.
The action follows a complaint lodged by MRT Music last Friday with the Yeshwantpur police alleging that three senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Jairam Ramesh and Supriya Shrinate had unauthorisedly used music from the Kannada blockbuster ‘KGF-2’ during the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
The court has also and ordered the appointment of a court commissioner to conduct an electronic audit and seize or preserve the infringing material.
Reacting to the development, the Congress said that it is pursuing all legal remedies.”We have read on social media about an adverse order from a Bengaluru court against INC & BJY SM handles. We were neither made aware of nor present at court proceedings. No copy of the order has been received. We are pursuing all the legal remedies at our disposal,” the Congress’s official handle tweeted.
