BENGALURU: The Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway, the longest in South India, is now open to traffic. The works in the Karnataka section of the expressway, spanning 71 km, including signboards, nameboards, signages and digital boards are completed. Now it is fully operational and toll-free for now and the speed limit is restricted to 100 kmph.

The expressway connects three states. The Hosakote interchange to Chennai stretch is 280 km long. Currently, the road is open to traffic from Hosakote to the Andhra Pradesh border at Sundarapalya.

However, work is ongoing in the Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu sections. The entire expressway is expected to be operational by the end of the year. Toll collection will likely begin after the completion of the entire project.

The expressway has three interchanges at Malur, Bangarapet and Sundarapalya.
