Bengaluru all set to rin in New Year, tight security in place

The showcase Brigade Road has been brightly lit up for the New Year's Eve celebration.

BENGALURU: The countdown to ushering in the New Year has already begun and the celebratory spirit is already running high. The popular revelry spots of MG Road, Brigade Road, Church Street and Commercial Street in the central business district (CBD) have been decked up with colourful lighting to herald the New Year.

CCTV cameras have been installed and police personnel deployed to prevent any trouble.

The city police have heightened vigil to prevent any untoward incidents and installed CCTV cameras at vantage points. Thousands of revellers are expected to descend on the CBD later in the night. The police have also booked 20 beds at St John’s Hospital and four ambulances on standby for any medical emergencies.

Church Street will also see heavy footfalls for New Year’s Eve.

As a precautionary measure, the city police have banned traffic movement on all the major flyovers in the city from 8 pm on Tuesday till early on Wednesday morning. The police will also conduct strict checks for drunk driving during New Year’s Eve.

Commercial Street traders are wooing revellers with discounts.

The flyovers that will be closed for traffic are those at Agara, Mysuru Road, Anand Rao Circle, Electronics City, Yeshwantpur, Richmond Circle, Shivananda Circle, BDA junction, Bellandur, Benniganahalli, Bhadrappa Layout, Dairy Circle, Domlur, Hennur, Kalyannagar, Kanteerava Studio, Shivanagar, Tin Factory, Rajajinagar and Tumakuru Road.
