Belagavi mother-daughter duo who died in Prayagraj stampede laid to rest

Jyothi and her daughter Megha were laid to rest on Friday.

BELAGAVI: The bodies of the mother-daughter duo of Jyothi Hattaravath and Megha Hattaravath, who died in the stampede at Prayagraj during the Maha Kumbh Mela on January 29, were cremated at the Shahpur cemetry on Friday. The last rites of Arun Koparde and Mahadevi Bavanur were held on Thursday itself.

After the rituals, Jyothi’s husband Deepak first lit her funeral pyre and then the daughter’s, on Friday morning. On Thursday night, the bodies were brought to the BIMS Hospital from Goa by road and the post-mortem examination was conducted on Friday morning. District Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Roshan had received the bodies with upon their arrival.

After the autopsy on Friday morning, the bodies were taken to Jyothi’s residence in Vadagaon where they were kept for some time and rituals conducted as per Brahmin traditions.

On Thursday, the bodies of Arun Koparde and Mahadevi Bavanur were airlifted from Delhi to Belagavi and the autopsy conducted at BIMS. Later, the bodies were handed over to the respective families. Anil Koparde’s mortal remains were taken to his house at Shetti Galli and the last rites were conducted at the Sadashivanagar cemetry. Arun’s son Shubham lit the funeral pyre.

The mortal remains of Mahadevi Bavanur were taken to her residence at Nulvi in Hubballi following which the last rites were conducted.
