Belagavi man found dead in car after it crashes into canal in Honnali taluk

DAVANAGERE, BELAGAVI: A man died in an accident on Sunday while he was returning home after dropping off his friend at Shivamogga near Maheshwara canal at  Masadi village in Honnalli taluk.

The deceased has been identified as Prakash Chembappa, a resident of Basavanakudachi in Belagavi district. He is also the son of an assistant sub-inspector of police. While returning to Belagavi after dropping off his friend, he lost control of his car and collided with the bridge parapet built across the Maheshwara canal around 1 am. He fell into the canal and died. Locals informed the Honnali police about the accident and the body and car were taken out of the canal.

The family members have alleged that he may have been murdered, as his body was found in the rear seat of the car. Two air bags in the car had also deployed.

Earlier, Renukacharya’s nephew Chandrashekar was found dead in the Tungabhadra canal near Soratur, between Honnali and Nyamati. Both accidents are eerily similar.

A case has been registered at Honnali police station and further investigation is on.
