BELAGAVI: The additional district sessions court here has awarded death sentence to a man convicted of raping and killing a minor. The convict is Uddappa Ramappa Ganigera (32) and the incident occurred in 2017 and the case was registered at the Harogeri police station.
Ramappa had allegedly lured the victim, who was playing in front of her house, with chocolate, took her to a sugarcane field where he sexually assaulted her. He then stuffed the girl’s face in mud and killed her.
After completion of the trial, the court awarded death sentence to the culprit and also imposed a fine of Rs 45,000. It also directed the district legal services authority to provide Rs 3 lakh as compensation to the victim’s parents.
