Beer prices to go up again in Karnataka, third time in 1.5 years

BENGALURU: The state government has proposed to raise the prices of beer, much to the shock of its afficionados. This will be the third time the prices of the bubbly is being raised in the last one-and-half years.

The hike in beer prices comes close on the heels of a downward revision of premium liquor. Only in January, the prices of beer had been increased by up to 20 per cent.

A draft notification on the beer price hike was issued on August 23 with 15 days’ time for submitting objections. With no objections being submitted, the prices of beer will be revised soon.

Beer prices will be revised in all the three slabs and the cost will go up by Rs 10-12. While beer with 0-5 per cent alcohol strength is in the first slab, that with 5-6 per cent is in the second slab and 6-8 per cent in the third slab.
