BENGALURU: The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has received flak on several occasions over delays in executing projects. There have been several public complaints that it takes a lot of time to get any work done at the BDA office. Now, a social activist has claimed that many BDA officials are continuing to work in the same posts on contract basis even after their retirement.
Though not illegal, many retired officials continue in the same posts on contract or outsourced basis years after their retirement. This may be due to lack of experience among other officer and paucity of staff. However, objections are being raised over the practice with citizens saying that f they work six months or a year after retirement, it may be okay, but if they continue to work for years, it is not right. Such officials are the one reasons for the slow pace of work in the authority.
Staff, who are working on the contractual basis even after retirement include V Manjunath, who retired as supervisor and is currently working as an engineer member in the mail sorting section’ Sampath Kumar, who retired as supervisor, and Subbarao, who retired as superintendent, and are now working in the BDA chairman’s personal staff section; Hosalaiah who retired as revenue inspector, and Chikkegowda, who retired as first division assistant, and are now working in the PRR as outsourced staff; Srinivas B S, a retired shorthand clerk who continues as a city planning member on contract; Prakash D N, a retired Group D worker and continues as driver on outsourced basis; Venkataiah, a retired Group D employee, who is working in the Commissioner’s personal staff section on contract; Lingaiah and Shivalingaiah, retired Group D employees who are working in the BDA secretary’s personal staff section; and Narayanaswamy, retired Group D employee now working in the financial member’s personal staff section on contract.
Social activist Tainadu Raghavendra has alleged that the retired employees indulge in corruption with respect to every file and that they are not allowing newcomers to work here. “The BDA is known for corrupt officials. How can retired staff work for years after retirement in the same post? Who is protecting them and who appointed them in those posts? They are not allowing newcomers to work here. How can they continue working for year”, he questioned.
