BENGALURU: The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has reduced the time frame for constructing a house on allotted vacant sites from five years to three years. If plot owners fail to comply, it will result in a 10 per cent penalty based on the current market value of the site.
Many plot owners are protesting against this decision, stating that it’s unfair and will cause financial burden. They argue that purchasing a plot already involves significant expense, and the added penalty will be a substantial economic strain.
This decision was made during the BDA board meeting in September. Plot owners are questioning how they can be penalized for not constructing a house on their purchased plot.
Mallikarjun, a site owner, claimed that the BDA’s decision is unscientific and has put them in a difficult situation. “According to the BDA rule, it is a mistake to keep the property vacant. The BDA is imposing penalty taking into consideration the present SR value of land. It is really a burden”, he said.
He further said, “We are planning to appeal to the BDA to reconsider the resolution. This is not a people-friendly resolution and needs to be changed. It is an unnecessary burden on site owners along with building a house”.
The plot owners are appealing against this decision, stating that it’s unfair to penalize them for not constructing a house on their plot within a given time frame.
