BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is upgrading the Indira Canteens with a digital touch for better and efficient service. The new system will allow customers to order food through a digital LED screen from state-run Keonics, similar to the ones used in the Indian Railways’ catering service.
The BBMP has already conducted a trial of this system in 11 canteens in the Rajarajeshwari Nagar zone. The system will also provide information on the quality and quantity of food served.
The new digital system will help prevent complaints about food quality and quantity. It will also provide real-time information on the number of customers served and the quantity of food sold. The data will be stored on the BBMP’s server for a limited period.
The meal menu is pre-programmed in the digital kiosks supplied by Keonics. The canteen staff will serve the meal selected by the customers. Prior to this, tests were conducted using three other technologies, but it was not successful. So now, the corporation has come up with a new system. The file has been sent to the IT section, and the corporation is preparing to call tenders to implement this new system.
The three main objectives for implementing this system are:
1. To prevent complaints about food quantity and quality.
2. To monitor the functioning of canteens and identify any issues.
3. To generate reports and access information quickly.
The new system will also help prevent misuse and ensure transparency in the functioning of the canteens.
When a customer operated the kiosk to select food, their photo will be captured on the machine. The food quantity is already registered and the kiosk operates only during breakfast, lunch and dinner times. It also shows how many meals are sold in a day and the quality of the meal for a limited period of time.
The data of customers who purchased meals is registered on the BBMP servers. It will help release funds to the tenderer for the number of meals sold and to prevent irregularities.
