BENGALURU: With confusion prevailing over issuance of e-khatas and related technical issue, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has now plannned to take the scheme to all its eight zones on the direction of Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, who is also in charge of Bengaluru development.

The Palike aims to clear confusion regarding issuance of e-khatas by organising melas at the zonal level. This comes on the back of citizens facing huge delays in getting e-khatas even in cases where all the related documents are in order.

Palike Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath said, “We have already issue draft e-khatas for 23-25 lakh properties. There have been lots of downloads, but we don’t know who is doing it. Now, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has directed us to issue the draft e-khatas to all property owners and they can check if there are any errors. As of now, citizens themselves can check and make corrections. Henceforth, we will distribute the e-khatas, give the property owners some time and take their feedback and perhaps make it compulsory”.

Further, he said, “We are now issuing e-khatas wherever fresh property transactions take place and others can also apply. But, not many are coming forward. So we will conduct e-khata melas at big apartment complexes and colonies after giving them details of documents needed and we will issue it there itself. The standard operating procedure has already been issued to our officials. We will give give advance information of at least 10 days to the property owners and plan to start from February 10”.

The Palike will reach out to aparment associations, residents’ welfare associations and other groups and brief them about the documents required to get an e-khata. After giving them about 10 days of time, an e-khata mela, will be organised, the BBMP chief commissioner explained.

Property owners can also approach the ward-level officials like revenue officers, zonal commissioner, joint commissioner, at the zonal offices and get their e-khatas, Tushar Giri Nath added.
