BBMP to levy Rs 50 fine if cleanliness is not maintained in and around houses

BENGALURU: With dengue cases continuing to rise in the city the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) now plans to levy a fine of Rs 50 if people do not maintain cleanliness and hygiene in their homes and surroundings.

Special Commissioner Vikas Suralkar has directed officials to impose fines on those who fail to comply. If residents ignore the warnings, they will be fined Rs 15 daily under the Karnataka Medical Council (KMC) Act.

Furthermore, the BBMP has decided to increase the fine amount, and a proposal has been sent to the government for approval. Special teams have been formed to conduct door-to-door surveys and raise awareness about the importance of maintaining cleanliness and hygiene to prevent the spread of dengue fever. As of now, there are 2,500 dengue cases and one death reported in Bengaluru.
