BBMP to conduct survey of families facing water shortage in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: As residents of some localities on the outskirts are suffering due to water scarcity, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has planned to conduct a survey of families who are not getting water and how many people do not have water sources. The BBMP has already listed the zones where there is water shortage and is now making preparations to submit a report.

Bengalureans are already facing an acute shortage of water in some areas. The BWSSB and BBMP are taking various measures to ensure proper water supply. In the meantime, BWSSB has made a list of areas where there is water shortage in Bengaluru.

Mainly, 247 localities are facing water shortages as per the BWSSB list. Thus, BBMP is planning to conduct a survey to get complete information. Of the 247 areas facing major water shortage include Bagalugunte, Peenya, Kadu Malleswara, Rajajinagar, Chickpet, Hosakerehalli, Yelachenahalli, Bommanahalli, HSR Layout and Marathahalli.

A preliminary survey has been completed in which 110 villages, which majorly include Mahadevpura, Bommanahalli, and East Zone, along with the South Zone, are said to be facing water problems.

  • Mahadevpura zone – 3.4 lakh people facing water shortage.
  • Bommanahalli zone –  3 lakh people are estimated to be facing water shortage.
  • Eastern Zone – 3 lakh people facing water shortage.
  • South Zone – 3 lakh people estimated to be facing water shortage.

The survey is yet to be completed and the total number may vary once the exercise is completed by the end of this month. Only after this, the Palike will get a clear picture of families without water facilities and will initiate steps to ensure better supply.
