BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) coming up with various plans to recover property tax dues while issuing notices directly to houses. The Palike has been sending messages to the mobile phones of those who have not paid property tax with a warning that their property will be seized if the tax for the years 2023–24 is not paid and legal action taken.
Munish Moudgil, Special Commissioner (Revenue), said that under the BBMP Property Tax Act 2022, the bank account and movable properties attached by the Palike will be mentioned in the encumbrance certificate during the time of sale. Based on that, it will be seized. As many as six lakh people have to pay a property tax of Rs 500 crore. Messages are being sent to those who are not paid the dues and 50,000 property owners have already been given notice directly. So far, messages have been sent to six lakh people on their mobile phones, he said.
“The BBMP has also served 50,000 notices directly to the houses, and three lakh SMSes have already been sent. More messages will be sent to the remaining defaulters through SMS and WhatsApp. We won’t leave out anyone with unpaid tax dues”, Moudgil said.
